rain– Ian posited a “what if” and I countered with an alternative “what if.” I was only arguing against the inane sterotype that Americans are racist. The only ones who made Obama’s candidacy about race were the Democrats. The Dems even took out Colin Powell (one of their own) and trashed Condi Rice.

Bunk, this picking at nits reflects unwell-ly upon you. If his father HAD been in the US, he might not have been served, and that’s not a reflection on the quality of fatherhood he provided, but the quality of experience America provided black men. Which was part of why he left in the first place.

Ian– His father wasn’t in the country 60 years ago. His father, less than sixty years ago, might have also started a prosperous business. His father, more recently than that, might have stuck around to be his father. Pheew.

The line that stands out for me are “…and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath.”
