I know my friends have limitations and to deliberately not ask them for more than they can give isn’t “being a bad friend” or “lacking faith,” it’s just knowing how to maintain a friendship proactively.

We all have lots of friends who say “you can count on me” and we love them, but we know we can’t, really. And that’s okay, as long as there are a few we CAN count on, when the chips are down.
