This we can blame on my family. The specific twig of the family tree which branched out into inventing the Grinch drinking game is, alas, lost to history, but we are all proud of him, from the tall to the small.
The procedure is simple. You lay out a tray of shot glasses filled with shots. You take one every time they say “Hoo”.
They say it eighteen times in the theme song, which they sing three times throughout the show.
No-0ne can ever remember who won.

this past week, i watched ‘the grinch who stole christmas’ on cbc. boy was amazed that i would. but who am i to mess with tradition. i don’t think there’s been a single year since i was about 10 that i’ve missed a broadcast on one channel or another. i even own it (along with ‘horton hears a who”) and the movie as well, though i don’t like it as much as the one that’s narrated by boris karlof.
i never thought of involving the grinch in a drinking game. it sounds intriguing.
If you watched it on CBC last week you missed about half of it anyway. Since they’d pre-empted Doctor Who and Mme and I seem to have lost our tape of The Grinch I sat down to watch.
After flashing the Dr Suess logo they faded to commercial. Then they cut the credits and gave us three seconds of the Who song as they downed the tree. Immediate cut to the next scene.
It was like watching it on billboards beside the high-speed rail. I quit at the next commercial break (which followed the first by about three minutes).
Awwwww. Now I have to go dig up my VHS copy and watch that. I refust to see the travesty featuring Jim Carrey. If it’s not Karloff, it’s not good Enoff!
