Stolen from Popbitch, here is Mark Cuban, for whom I have decidedly mixed admiration, discussing his decision to fund the distribution of Loose Change, a 9/11 conspiracy film in whose central premise he does not believe.
“I don’t believe the movie. Not at all. But I do believe that lies in the shadows are far more dangerous than lies you can confront and refute.”

At least someone learned something from history, i.e. how lies can undermine a regime’s credibility (“stab in the back” anyone).
If that were true, George Bush Number Two would already be in jail, and Cheney would have fled to Dubai along with his corporate masters.
As far as the quote, I believe it was best put by Voltaire:
“I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to be a tin-foil-hat-wearing loony fruitbat.”
Or something along those lines.
Cuban, to his credit, didn’t need to learn the lessons of history. Some people learn their lessons from their principles and then apply them to history, which is the best way to do it in my opinion.
And yeah. Voltaire was the man.
“Best way”?
Disagree totally.
Geo. Dubya learned his lessons from his principles and applied them to history, and now look.
Well, it’s true that first you have to apply brain power and that’s where he’s lacking.
