Tom Lehrer can die in peace, now that the heir to his great tradition of mathematical musical doggerel (also this and this) has emerged from the steaming bowels of YouTube. Behold! And pay attention, class, because there’s going to be a short quiz next period.
Lyrics over the jump
PS:
Analytic and Algebraic Topology of local Euclidian Metrization
of Infinitely Differential Remanian Manifones FTW!
Four, three, two, one
Listen up, ya’ll, ’cause this is it
The numbers we’re making are so vicious
Mathmaticious expeditious can be kind of scary
I hope my answers aren’t radical or imaginary
I convert percents to fractions, it brings me some satisfaction
Like scientific notation and order of operations
Mathmaticious (repetitious)
Gets me expeditious
My answers may get vicious
My eraser’s left in stitches
I make wishes (woo-ah)
I get the answer right, right
And I’ll be staying up all night just to check what I write
Mathmaticious (The Pythagorean Theory)
Mathmaticious (Finds the hypotenuse for me)
Mathmaticious (Or I’ll use trigonometry)
I’m Mathmaticious (d-d-d-d-d-decimal, decimal)
Locus of the points
Locus of the points
Locus of the points (points is echoing)
I’m up about figuring out greatest common factors
And when I make a pie chart I’m in need of a protractor
The angle of elevation, thanks to my calculations
Turns out to be 43, a prime number
I’m Mathmaticious (Mathmaticious)
It makes me so ambitious
My answers are judicious
Calculator never glitches
It’s my mission
I get the answer right, right
And I’ll be staying up all night just to check what I write
Mathmaticious (What’s the probability?)
Mathmaticious (Of me not labeling my axis)
Mathmaticious (When graphing inequalities)
Mathmaticious (hold, hold, hold, hold, hold up, check your work)
Computing areas
Quadratic formula
Graphing parabolas
I think they’re all so cool
It’s my soul commitment
That I ace the Regents
Sin, cosine and tangent
Are my favorite tools
I divide, multiply, add, subtract, round off and simplify
I divide, multiply, add, subtract, round off and simplify
Is it whole? Rational? Factor out, substitute, solve for x
Is it whole? Rational? Factor, factor, factor, hit the pi key
3.14159, 26535, 89793238, 462

And I’ll be staying up all night just to check what I write
Mathmaticious (pi, pi, pi, pi)
Mathmaticious (pi, pi, pi, pi)
Mathmaticious (pi, pi, pi, pi)
I’m Mathmaticious (d-d-d-d-d-decimal, decimal)
It’s Mathmaticious (pi, pi, pi, pi)
Mathmaticious (pi, pi, pi, pi)
Mathmaticious (pi, pi, pi, pi)
I’m Mathmaticious, d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d (pi, pi, pi, pi)
I divide, multiply, add, subtract, round off and simplify
I divide, multiply, add, subtract, round off and simplify
I divide, multiply, add, subtract, round off and simplify
I divide, multiply, add, sub (four, three, two, one)
Is it whole? Rational? Factor out, substitute, solve for x
Is it whole? Rational? Factor out, substitute, solve for x
Is it whole? Rational? Factor out, substitute, solve for x
Is it whole? Rational? Factor, factor, factor (four, three, two, one)

And Base 8 is as easy as base 10 . . . if you’re missing two fingers
Oh my god. I get Tom Lehrer google alerts because I am a huge nerd. Seeing “Tom Lehrer can die in peace” first thing in the morning was not on. It took a second to parse that he |wasn’t| dead but before I did you almost scared me half to death. He hasn’t reached his 80th birthday yet! (this coming Wednesday) And even more importantly, I haven’t sent him any fan mail yet. :P
Well, what are you doing surfing the net? Get on that! Maybe send him the link to this post while you’re at it!
I agree one thousand percent with every word written by Jennilee!!! OMFG!!!
I also have daily Tom Lehrer Google Alerts delivered to my emailbox, and you almost put me into terminal cyberheartbreak. I have been sooo in love with Mr Lehrer, ever since 1968, when my anachronistic high school Rhetoric teacher played us one of his LP’s in class.
Do not EVER put the words “die” and “Lehrer” in the same paragraph again, thank you.
Also, your soo-called heir to Tom’s legacy, Drew D’Amelia, is geekily cute ~ but certainly does not carry NEAR the abilities nor talent to wear Tom’s heir-suit (so to speak).
Indeed, IMHO, Mr Lehrer himself would take to task his bad choices of rhyming words in that ditty. “Almost-rhymes” have always been one of his pet peeves, if you know anything about him!
If I have been too harsh, you only have yourself to blame. Apologize, heathen (genuflect, genuflect, genuflect), and join with us in wishing Mr Lehrer a very happy 80th birthday tomorrow, April 9!

Dear god. And I thought the Claymates were bad! Linkie deleted. You only get one, sweetie.
Wtf are “the Claymates”…?
That reference went wayyy over my head, Ms Esoterica!
Not a difficult task, by the way. LOL
You don’t have Google where you come from?
