Keep Calm and Hail Cthulhu

Keep Calm and Hail Cthulhu

I think this will look very nice painted on the wall of my new place. over and over. in human blood.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

Word up, yo.

  1. I honestly do not know. I can’t get more than four lines into the damn thing, because my friends have told me all the good lines from it already.

  2. I love the stories. I’ve read them so many times I find them comforting, actually. Occasionally, if called upon to do a sound check, I’ll recite the opening paragraph of The Call of Cthulhu. Always gets applause.

But think about the sea. Think about it as it really is. What do we know about it? If we knew as little about the land as we do about the sea, we’d build a series of Habitrails and never ever go outside. But there’s nothing like the Giant Squid or the Colossal Squid on dry land. They are OUT THERE. They are peeing in our oceans, and we are swimming in them, all oblivious. Why? WHY?

Ignorance. See those opening lines above, and see if they don’t account for a whole lot.
