ramenNation: shocking thought for the day

IndoMie, a good source of dietary carbs

In the spirit of the great Lily Tomlin and her immortal stage show The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life, we at the ol’ raincoaster blog present the following conundrum:

If soy sauce is made from soybeans and chili sauce is made from chilis,

what is bumbu sauce made from?

BUMBU, you!

Oooh, I saw Lily Tomlin perform that in Toronto many, many moons ago – fabulous.

Meanwhile, never mind bumbu sauce, what about baby oil?

  2. raincoaster says:

That I have no problem with. Particularly after trying to watch a movie in a public theatre.

Which brings up the whole question of vegetarian food and Girl Guide cookies. Possibly some sort of artificial flavours are now in use?

  5. sulz says:

don’t knock it, it’s quite yummy.

  6. raincoaster says:

It is indeed, but I just wish I knew whether it was made with the kind of bums you have between your legs and your back or the kind of bums who hang out in front of the liquor store.

  7. sulz says:

absolutely nothing of that sort! it’s pronounced as boomboo, not bahmboo. not exactly sure what it’s made from – could be bamboo because it’s shown at the picture of the package, but in malay buluh is bamboo, not bumbu. malay and indonesian language are somewhat similar, but it could be that bumbu means bamboo in indonesian.

  8. raincoaster says:

Nope. Bums. Bums all the way.

“BOOMbu” is what you call it when it’s the one the size of the one on Serena Williams.

  9. Edseverripit says:

I thought it could be the word for spices in Indonesian, because the word in Malay is rempah. Apparently not :(

  10. Elle and Mon says:

    bum sauce…hehe…icky…hehe…

  12. Jane says:

    Bumbu (see lemon grass)
This term refers to Indonesian spice pastes of varying pungency, which are composed individually for each dish. By mass, they mostly consist of onions, but their taste is usually dominated by chiles and garlic; further common ingredients are lemon grass, greater galangale, ginger and Indonesian bay-leaves. Analogous pastes used in the regional cuisine of Bali are called jangkap; see lesser galangale for an example.
