Bush: Did I say stay the course? I meant weasel out of it…

Isn't he pretty? You can’t lie to my Georgie and get away with it, nosir! Think Progress, via Fark, busts Bush‘s big lie wide open, with footnotes, video, a transcript, and a timeline.

George R. Stephanopoulos pwns George W. Bush.

STEPHANOPOULOS: James Baker says that he’s looking for something between “cut and run” and “stay the course.”

BUSH: Well, hey, listen, we’ve never been “stay the course,” George. We have been — we will complete the mission, we will do our job, and help achieve the goal, but we’re constantly adjusting to tactics. Constantly.

If not to reality.

  1. That’s one of the things that bugs me about politicians. They just can’t seem to stay the course on their own beliefs. Fight for what they believe in and stand by it right or wrong. They feel they need to change what they believe in based on the latest poll or public view. That just ends up making a bigger mess. The President wiggling his way way out of his conventions is a slap in the face to the men and women and to their families who have fought, and lost lives, souls and spirits. Shame on you Mr. President!

  2. And they can’t even admit that they’ve had a change of heart. We are left to conclude that not only is the President of the United States a cheap liar, but he’s a bad, arrogant cheap liar who thinks himself immune to accountability.

  3. You’re just concluding that now? The man is and always has been a moral and ethical shambles. My opposition to voting machines is partly based on the fact that I cannot conceive that a majority of Americans voted for Mr. “Pro-life” who executed over 100 people, Mr. “I may or may not have” who jails drug dealers for life, Mr. “Moral Values” who just legalized torture–sorry, I forgot: “The US does not torture” … who legalized stress-interrogation-to-the-point-of-causing-pain-equivalent-to-not-quite-major-organ-failure.

I doubt, actually, that Bush has changed whatever it is that he uses for a mind. But the Party of the Elephant knows that the voters may forget, but only if you’re not constantly reminding each day them that you’re the ones who dragged them into this irresponsible mess, and that you have no plan to offer them save “stay the course”.

Which is another way of saying “we will kill your sons and daughters until you make us stop”.

With mid-terms only weeks away, the GOP is squirming on the Iraq hook. Hopefully they’ll pierce something vital.

Of course, Karl Rove’s October Surprise has yet to be sprung.

  4. Oh, I concluded he was a mendacious fool years ago, it’s just nice to see it Fisked so heartily. And by my dear, dear Georgie.

Isn’t the October Surprise already leaked though? No coffee = brain no workie, but I was sure I’d read about what they had planned already, and that Blair was implicated in it.
