Cafferty struck a somber tone tonight after the House passed legislation that includes a war crimes immunity clause. He rightfully asks, “what are we becoming?”Cafferty: President Bush is trying to pardon himself. Here’s the deal: Under the War Crimes Act, violations of the Geneva Conventions are felonies, in some cases punishable by death. When the Supreme Court ruled that the Geneva Convention applied to al Qaeda and Taliban detainees, President Bush and his boys were suddenly in big trouble. They’ve been working these prisoners over pretty good. In an effort to avoid possible prosecution they’re trying to cram this bill through Congress before the end of the week before Congress adjourns. The reason there’s such a rush to do this? If the Democrats get control of the House in November this kind of legislation probably wouldn’t pass.
You wanna know the real disgrace about what these people are about to do or are in the process of doing? Senator Bill Frist and Congressman Dennis Hastert and their Republican stooges apparently don’t see anything wrong with this. I really do wonder sometimes what we’re becoming in this country.

The truly sad part of this also was that 12 Democrats voted for this. Meaning there really is no big difference between the Democrats and the Republicans south of the border.

Yep. Colbert had a segment (a bit further down the blog) about the definition of “Opposition Party,” and apparently it involves opposition. You’d never know it from the Democrats! (or, it must be said, the Liberals in Canada).
I still would like to think though if something like this would happen in Canada (law wise) that someone drags whoever lives in 21 Sussex out by their ears and into the street.

But where are the street protests? Why aren’t American citizens rioting against what’s being done in their name? This is why I get freaked.
Mme Metro and I are planning to visit before they close the borders and start expelling Jews, blacks, Muslims and gays. I plan to smuggle a copy of the Constitution out, since I expect it to be thoroughly suppressed any day now.
well, GW went through the formality of asking the UN if it was okay to invade Iraq. Seems if they dont get their way…….

Really. It’s shocking what America has become. As I said earlier in another context, the ideals of America live on, in the countries they’ve inspired around the globe, even when they die in America.
