So this is what happens when you go offline for a coupla days: Americans rise up and tell a bunch of xenophobic, white, Republican, good ole boys that their efforts are not wanted.

CTV’s Natalie Yammine brings us live footage of students storming the stage during a speech by the Minutemen Project on October 4, 2006 at Columbia University.
The Minutemen Project is a group of armed civilians who voluntarily the United States-Mexico border[ed note: they also patrol some parts of the Canadian-US border, the parts that ship a lot of pot across]. They were invited by the Columbia College Republicans to speak on Columbia‘s campus. There was a large gathering of protesters outside the speech as well as the protest inside.

Considering that the second amendment is supposed to prevent Governmetn excess as currently observed I have to wonder when people will actually make use of it?
Honestly, I think the 2nd Amendment is just a pacifier for grown ups in the US.
I just take enormous satisfaction in the fact that one of the Minutemen shot hisself accidentally and was refused entry into Canada, where he was seeking medical treatment, because he didn’t have proper ID. I hope the Canadian border guards made that guard Employee of the Week!
Whats wrong with turning back illegal Mexican immigrants? If they are not wanted over there perhaps we could recruit them to police the docks at Dover.
Nothing wrong with actual law enforcement doing it, Steven. But when you have a heavily-armed mini-militia whose members are on record as belonging to the KKK patrolling the borders to keep out brown people, that’s called vigilanteism–and worse names.
Speaking of worse names. Is it worrying that the Young Republican (oxymoron alert) hight “Scott” in this film used the words “liberal” and “democratic” as pejoratives?
It lays bare the brainwashing that these guys are getting, as well as the future conservative agenda: “Associate democracy with our chief bugbear ‘liberalism'”, runs the thinking “and we’ll soon be able to do away with both”.
Metro has been kind enough to leave out the information that similar armed John Birch Society yahoos are patrolling the Northern border of the US near here, and also that they’ve been guilty of crossing that border themselves illegally on several occasions. They have also shot into Canada, claiming “I thought it was America.” People so confused shouldn’t be trusted to do law enforcement.
Stephen, think of it as UKIP wandering around with guns shooting anyone off-white. Come to think of it, imagine them patrolling Hadrian’s Wall, shooting anybody with an accent.
