¡Que divertido!
You know, back in 1992 I was told not to tell people here (Spain) that I was Canadian because of the big Fletan Fiasco.
Never mind … it seems that within 50 years there won’t be any sea fish left anyhow so what the fuck. I mean that – nobody actually cares. It’s always somebody else’s problem and the worst thing that happens when Iceland butchers an endangered finwhale is that a few tourists say they won’t be visiting that year.
The mind reels.
At least Japan has given up the premise that it’s hunting for “research.” They’re just bold about doing it for the market; simultaneously, the bottom has fallen out of said market, which can only be considered good news.
Nah, it just becomes an ‘exclusive specialty’ item and so people pay $500 a kilo for it.
The rest goes to the pet food industry.
But doesn’t it go to the pet food industry because there’s insufficient demand at market rates?
Not sure, I think it’s because there is so much ‘waste’ that nobody wants to eat it at any price. I’m really not sure how much of a whale is actually considered edible by humans.
If there was no market for it then why bother? Looks like it costs a helluva lot to catch, kill and process one of those guys.
You might find this interesting.

Thanks, I’ll check it out.
