Sure, the singer is from Montreal by way of Paris, but I defy you to tell me that she didn’t absolutely nail SoCal with this song. This video, by the way, cost three-quarters of a million dollars to make, and was directed by the relatively insane Abel Ferrara, whose habits may perhaps explain why so much of that money ultimately ended up in Columbia.

Technorati Favorite me!
Aéroport, aérogare
mais pour tout l’or m’en aller
c’est le blues, l’ coup d’ cafard
le check out assuré
vienne la nuit et sonne l’heure
et moi je meurs
entre apathie et pesanteur
où je demeure
changer d’optique, prendre l’exit
c’est l’osmose, on the road
de l’asphalte sous les pieds
vienne la nuit, c’est le jet lag
qui me décale
L.A.P.D. me donne un blâme
c’est pas le drame
se faire un trip, s’offrir un streap
sous le soleil en plein midi
six a.m., j’suis offset
j’suis l’ice dans l’eau, j’suis mélo, dis
mon amour, mon Wesson
mon artifice
la chaleur du canon
c’est comme une symphonie
c’est sexy le ciel de Californie
sous ma peau j’ai L.A. en overdose
so sexy le spleen d’un road movie
dans l’rétro ma vie qui s’anamorphose

Airport, airport terminal
for all the gold in the world I wouldn’t stay
(here) it’s the blues, depression
The checkout assured
night comes and the clock strikes
and I die
between apathy and lethargy
where I linger
Change perspective,
take the opening
and fly myself to America
Sex appeal, that’s Sunset
that’s Marlboro smiling at me
my love, my self,
I know it exists
The heat of abandonment
it’s like a symphony
It’s sexy the California sky
beneath my skin I’ve an L.A. overdose
so sexy the melancholy of this road movie
in the rearview mirror: my life morphing
I’ve no more ID, but yet the idea
of the (exotic) pleasure of the freeway
It’s the osmosis into the asphalt road
under one’s feet
Night comes,
it’s the jet lag’s fault
LAPD gives me a ticket
it’s no big deal
Go on a trip,
enjoy a strip
under the midday sun
Six AM, I’m wasted
I’m the ice in the water,
I’m melodramatic, says
my love my Wesson
my artifice
The heat of the cannon
it’s like a symphony
It’s sexy the California sky
beneath my skin I’ve an L.A. overdose
so sexy the melancholy of this road movie
in the rearview mirror: my life morphing
Well, actually I think that Bodrum hit the nail on the head far better . . . . if you live near the Dardanelles . . . . .
Spammer kilt.
Hope you didn’t mention Armenians to him . . .
Almost forgot – I’m making this Blogspot-Wordpress move serious starting today, even if my old stuff isn’t portable.
What year was that video from?
I think I remember it from Much Music in the 90s…
It’s from 1995. Funny how hooker fashions don’t change much at the high or the low end. She apparently moved to LA to try to make it in the English speaking world but got her ass handed to her, which she was NOT used to. She’s the Madonna of Europe, although I would say she’s both more beautiful and more talented than Madonna. But LA is ruthless, no question.
