Saints Alive! The Cthulhu Medallion

Oh, this has just GOT to work better than a Saint Christopher; after all, having millions of medals out there didn’t prevent St.Chris from getting demoted from Saint Christopher to Just A General All-Around Nice Guy Christopher?

This, instead, is something with real power behind the graven image, something worth far more than its melt or sentimental value. Sling this around your neck and have geeks falling at your feet (mind you, they do that now, but only because I claim I dropped “the chip that Woz signed for me” I’m a big meanie, I am) and maybe one of them will give you Friends and Family options. Or at least grovel on the floor, chanting. That’s always impressive.

  1. Won’t it at least protect you from the servants of Nodens? Then, when the Deep Ones come for you, you just whip out your matching Elder Sign belt buckle and you’re protected every which way!

  2. That’s why it always pays to have the DELUXE one. Mine’s so heavy I have to have the Versace Twins carry it around for me. On the other hand, I never have to rummage around for surgical clamps.

  3. I like it that the website gives a translation of the inscription:

The Cthulhu chant, “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn” (In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming), is engraved on back of the pendant.

Now if I could only figure out the syntax.

  4. after ol’ chris was demoted, we called him mr. christopher. dad still has his mr. christopher medal in the car and refuses to take it out of the glove compartment until the car is either totaled or sold, whichever comes first. he’s always had a mr. christopher medal in the car. i don’t think he’d trade for a cthulhu though. he’s never been big on sea food.

  5. I call it hedging your bets. Should have one of each, just in case.

alejna, Lovecraft was not the linguist Tolkien was, so I’d be surprised if there IS any syntax. “Fhtagn” means “lies/waits dreaming” and “naphfhtagn” means “no longer lies/waits dreaming” but it’s unclear whether there should be a comma between those two words. Different editions have it differently. So, is he waiting FOR dreaming, or is he dreaming while he waits? Different branches of Cthulhu mythos scholars have sprung up over this divide, one Gnostic-y and the other more straight-up clairvoyant/psychic phenomenological.

  6. ims sad i had a dream that cthulhu tore me apart and ya i die then i woke up ya i was weird so creepy
