In a followup to this post of mine, Ahmad over at Cold Desert has posted a couple more liquor ads. It’s amazing how patriotic a good marketing company can make getting pissed, eh? We saw it here first, but these guys just don’t stop! They may be hungover, but they’re still on the ball; still, there goes the sales in Southern Florida.
Check out the latest Absolut ads in Beirut:

Rebuilding a country is thirsty work. Man, I could really use a drink right now…
Wasn’t Lebanon in a war with Israel ?
Do they really feel like drinking ? I wonder why Absolut is promoting right now. Don’t think people will go buy some vodka instead of food, or clothes.
Maybe I am not seeing it the right way ?
Israel bombed the hell out of Southern Lebanon, but without officially declaring war. Lebanon did not attack, nor declare war on, Israel, although Hezbollah has certainly attacked Israel from within Lebanon.
Why wouldn’t they feel like drinking? Anyone who’s not dead in that zone is a survivor in my estimation, and I’d be happy to raise a toast to them.
Lebanon is not actually short of food or clothing. It’s not the Gulag, it’s one of the most successful countries in the Middle East when it’s not being actively attacked.
And actually, think about the effect of acts of aggression on liquor sales. In New York City liquor sales went up by 300% after 9/11. They’re still significantly above what they were before the attack. Cynically speaking, war is good for booze sales.
Maybe ‘cos the Dubya White House’s policies all look saner through the bottom of a glass?
Haven’t found one deep enough. If I do, do you think we can drown him in it?
