The Superbowl Halftime Show in 2002; a tribute to the victims of 911 in a performance of Where the Streets Have No Name. If I’m not mistaken, the audience made Bono cry. Well, they sure did it to me.
God, how performers must love giving their all in front of American audiences. Those people just do NOT hold back; nor should they, in a case like this. This is what is known as rocking the house. Lyrics over the jump.
The First reason U2 is the greatest band in the world is here.
“Where The Streets Have No Name”I want to run
I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls
That hold me inside
I want to reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no nameI want to feel sunlight on my face
I see the dust cloud disappear
Without a trace
I want to take shelter from the poison rain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
We’re still building
Then burning down love
Burning down love
And when I go there
I go there with you
It’s all I can do
The city’s aflood
And our love turns to rust
We’re beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled in dust
I’ll show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
We’re still building
Then burning down love
Burning down love
And when I go there
I go there with you
It’s all I can do
Our love turns to rust
We’re beaten and blown by the wind
Blown by the wind
Oh, and I see love
See our love turn to rust
We’re beaten and blown by the wind
Blown by the wind
Oh, when I go there
I go there with you
It’s all I can do

Yeah U2 does have a lot of followers. They have very emotional music, and 911 was a very emotional time – sometimes music is the perfect outlet for heartache.
Love the site :)
Thanks, I appreciate it.
The thing I like about U2 is that they’re unafraid to explore religious and political questions, questions of duty and meaning, in rock music. It’s daring and, thankfully, they’re talented enough to do it while making music that still compels on an artistic level as well as a philosophical one. They’re like the Beatles: the words matter. Very few bands can be said to have actually changed the world, but they’re one of them.
Hi, i´m from Spain. I think U2 is the greatest band in history, togheter with the beatles and the rolling stones. U2´s music knows no borders, my first language is spanish, and their music, lyrics and performances made good listeners say, in any language, these guys rock!!!
I totally agree. And my first language was Walloon.
