The New York Media Mafia: keeping my dreams alive

Alan Rickman, yo! Ya wouldn’t normally a-thunkit, but the New York media establishment (or counterestablishment) whatever, the New York media hegemony (how I love that word), has today played a large part in keeping my most dearest, secretest, sweetest dreams alive, contrary to their traditionally dream-shattering ways.

They told me Alan Rickman is just as charming drunk as he is sober.

And also that he has a bit of a thing for school uniforms.

Alas! I went to a hippie school, and doubt that a Guatemalan poncho, Che tee and cutoffs quite meets the standard.

Nonetheless, I am willing to try.

  1. Ah, such is the the downfall of our dreams, the crushing realisation of our fantasies, the cold sweat counterpoint of our creative imaginations.

Well enough of that bollocks and let’s get down to brass taks – I used to think this geezer was just dreamy and so looked him up. He said that provincial theatre was a waste of time and he would only appear in major cities, but he said it in such an arrogant condescending way that it was clear…. well, I still watch his films as he’s a good actor, but I wouldn’t struggle for his autograph.

  2. Raincoaster in a plaid skirt and knee-highs?

    *Long pause*

Falls to the ground and rolls around screaming unhelpful things like “The suckers–the horrid, horrid su-huh-huh-ckers! Aaaah! My eyes!” before starting to weep in great wracking sobs.

  3. Well that’s the typical reaction, actually.

Phillipa, have you SEEN regional theatre? It’s certainly a waste of time for the audience at least. You wouldn’t believe some of the trash they have starring in it. You just don’t like him cuz he’s living with that leftie politician, whatsername.

  4. No no, I do not discriminate against left-wing scum and, as it happens, have a fondness for regional theatre. Actually it can be bloody good and often is but it would be impossible to have some of the more popular productions starting out there if arrogant stuck-up gits like that refuse to appear there. The Belgrade in Coventry is excellent and the Malvern theatre is one of our favourites. The Festival Theatre at Chichester is a sort of modern affair and well worth a vist and Stratford can hardly be called a big city – refusing to appear at the Shakespear theatre? Oh these city dwellers.

  5. Stratford is a special case: anything that can get Maggie Smith to appear in it is obviously exempt from being called “provincial”.

And you don’t know as much as I do about regional theatre. Half of my friends are in it, so it seems.

  6. Maybe if the regional theater folks got him drunk first, then asked, he’d agree to appear…
I’m actually in the US, where most theater is regional theater, and it’s good. I’m disappointed that Mr. RIckman would put it down so globally…I wonder if he was taken out of context somehow?

  7. I think Alan is so hot no matter what he does. This coming from a 17 year old. My mom thinks Im weird, but I LOVE ALAN RICKMAN!!!!!!!!
