A Day in the life of Vancouver

Remember Blogathon? That series of 51 posts in 24 hours that I pulled off a week or so ago, just before basically collapsing for a week with the flu (or it may have been a pizza and jellybean hangover)? This is what the sky looked like over Vancouver that day. Sure, it’s pretty for most of the time, but you really need to be patient and let the video play till just AFTER the sun’s gone down to get the full effect of the Saturday before last. And then, the fireworks!

And fear not, loyal readers. I will be posting more regularly now that the gastrointestinal tract has settled down, allowing me to make the arduous 6-block trek to the office. Also, while the legendary Spirit Fingers is on special assignment offline, I’ve got the reins of Ayyyy.com and will be posting there daily. I’m off TeenyManolo except for occasional posts. And going to schedule daily posts at Lolebrity.net, TheShebeenClub.com, and RaincoasterMedia.com as well.

Also: anybody use Aweber? I have to get up to speed on this rather quickly.

for James

God, I hope his name was James. He bought me lunch, you’d think I could make a point of remembering. At this point in Blogathon, however, I’m lucky if I can remember how to use the alphabet.

In any case, James, while appreciating a good snark and laugh as much as the next man, specifically requested that I post something genuinely moving tonight, and as I was sifting through my Tumblr for blog fodder, I found this video, and played it.

And I started to cry.

So here, James. This aught to do it even if you HAVEN’T stayed up all night. Behold one of the living natural treasures of the West Coast, Shane Koyczan, performing his spoken word poetry on Beethoven.

Vancouver View

Four horsemen of the Apocalypse, you are cleared for landing.

John Bollwitt firesky over vancouver

Yes, more of the view from Workspace and environs. Blogathon is a hard slog, but there are compensations. Like stealing pictures from your friend John.

Zeus Speaks!

Zeus is my homeboy! Me and my crew are hangin at Workspace, chillin, bloggin, rockin, poppin and lockin…

Well, all that Blogathon energy concentrated in one place? Something was bound to happen. It was as inevitable as the dumbest kid in the horror movie suggesting they follow the trail of blood into the basement. But, like, postitive. So no vampires or anything, if you don’t count me and Raul, who are nocturnal in the extreme.

So, since we had a powerful positive energy vortex building here on the Downtown EastSide, itself a powerful energy vortex, something was bound to happen.

And did.

Zeus is my Homeboy

After that was over, we had this:

Rebecca Bollwitt Gastown Sunset

And here is Mojave, posing with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, just out of frame.

Mojave and the four horsemen of the Apocalypse

We bloggers are a spontaneous, touchy-feely bunch, but after the wormhole created by the energy vortex closed, swallowing UncleWeed, we quickly recovered and got right back to posting for Blogathon. I mean, it’s not like we don’t still have the Tardis.

Blogathon Vermeer View

Duane Storey Workspace Interior Blogathon

This IS the way Vermeer would have shot Workspace, if he had a snazzy digital camera like Duane’s. Well, he would have stuck Scarlett Johansson in the foreground somewhere, I guess.

Yes, this is what my office looks like. Caroline in the corner there is sitting in my favorite seat; 270 degree views, a view over crab park and the railyards to Burrard inlet and the North Shore Mountains. And now I must go, because Mojave is playing us an acoustic set, sitting on the sofa behind where Duane was standing when he took this picture, with the lightning and sunset happening through the window behind them. People who are not Blogathoners are coming out of their offices to stand around and listen and I must do the same, for lo, they are very good.
