1. You could always use a bookmarklet I find it a lot quicker and easier

   here the one we use you can modify the code, simply create a new bookmark in your toolbar and add

2. Thank you, I do appreciate this. I tried using Lorelle’s instructions, but she lost me at “drag this code into your sidebar.” I have no idea, and I mean ZERO idea, what sidebar she is talking about. My IE sidebar, with the Favorites in it? Does IE6 let you do that?

   Thanks for this, I’m sure it makes sense once you know exactly where you’re supposed to install bookmarklets, but someone has to take me by the hand and show me how to do this. That’s a little more than I can ask of a commenter! I just cannot see how to make a new Favorite and add code, rather than a URL. I just don’t get it; maybe I’m too dense.

3. Hmmm – I spotted the initial word “javascript” – I have a strong feeling WP cans anything to do with javascript.

4. I think it’s supposed to be something I add to my browser, like a toolbar add-on, but I have no idea how to make it work. None. Zero.

   I’m going to pine and continue to hack away at the code until either I get a page of code that I can copy and paste URLs into that results in a bunch of icons lined up all nice and pretty, OR some techie steps up and hands it to me. I mean, the above would be a solution, IF javascript worked here or if I could figure out how this is supposed to work without running it through WordPress.

   WordPress really should make these an option. Fark isn’t going anywhere. Some of these sites are pretty damn stable and have a membership many times the size of WordPress. If I can code the links for every damn post myself, they should be able to take an afternoon and put it in as an option for everyone across WordPress. I can tell you, it is certainly worth the ten or so minutes it takes me for each post.

6. ok step by step,
   A bookmarklet is a piece of Javascript you save as a bookmark in your browser that implements an action the above code asks for a URL and page name and then generates some HTML code for you to insert into your post.

   To get this to work make sure your using a browser that’s pretty modern IE 5 + mozilla etc

   Now if your using Firefox do the following
   go to the bookmark folder -> organise bookmarks ->add bookmark
   Give it a name
   Then in location add the following code (you may need to put it into note pad to remove the carriage returns, the blog theme is a bit unhelpful)

   The simpler way is to drag a copy of the bookmarklet to your bookmark Toolbar but as some one has already pointed out wordpress.com will not allow Javascript in any form. If any one is still a having problems feel free to contact me and I will put up the drag and drop variant to see what it looks like heres the final code

7. Thanks! I will ask my friend the techie tomorrow to show me how to do this in my IE 6. That’s a very concise explanation and hopefully it will go smoothly. I’m the farthest thing from tech-aware there can be, and I appreciate the help.

8. I believe it should be almost Identical steps replace the word bookmarks with favourites though you may need to bookmark a page then go to manage favourites and edit that bookmark in the same way as above. Because of the way comments work in wordpress.com you can not see the cute pictures

   the above link is to one of the posts, you will see at the bottom of the post the links complete with pictures. When you ask your techie friend to help ask him about the virtues of using Firefox instead of IE ;) even for people who have no tech-aware (which given your talking about social bookmarking I’m not sure is true )
