The Grumpy Covid Briefing Bingo

We’re a little annoyed this morning as our coffee is not ready yet, but here we go. Yep, still with our inscrutable Mystery Theme that’s been going for a few episodes so far. Guess it yet? We’ve had:

  • Grumpy (today)
  • Sparky
  • Heavy Metal
  • Happy
Erryday I’m grumblin’

Our video, with only 503 people watching:

On Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discusses the federal government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He is joined virtually by federal ministers Anita Anand (public services and procurement) and Dominic LeBlanc (intergovernmental affairs).

And our Bingo cards, and no we didn’t do a new one. Not sure there’s much point as they’re doing fewer and fewer of these. Trudeau may blow them off entirely, which would be a huge mistake if you axe me, which of course you did not. The Covid briefings are basically his chance to remind Canadians of all the ways his government has looked after them, and position himself against whatever bloviating Erin “Outhouse” O’Toole and Jagmeet “What He Said” Singh have been up to lately. With an election essentially inevitable in months or weeks it would be foolish to give up this bully pulpit.

And we’re off with #cdnpoli #BriefingBingo. Mark your Grey Suit, Begins in French, and AstraZenica squares. Also mark your “throat malfunction” and “Bromance” squares, along with “Biden.” I mean, the Bromance and Biden squares just automatically go together these days. Sorry, Doug Ford. Also mark Pfizer and Vaccine. And your “Thanks the Armed Forces” one too.

Oh my god, “From coast to coast to coast” again. We haven’t seen that in almost exactly a year. One is unreasonably excited to see one’s old friend again. It’s been A Year, Possums, hasn’t it?

And “Finds new way to give Canadians money” for the new housing initiative. And “Specific Canadian mentioned” I think it was Sylvia? Hi Sylvia.

Oh, speaking of Justin Trudeau, grumpiness, and specific Canadians, the Corey Hurren sentencing ruling is now online in full. Yay, one less transcript in my “to do” pile. And now, back to our irregularly-scheduled briefing.

“The Two Michaels” square active. One trial down (in 3 hours) and one to come in the next day.

And, as always, mark your “My aunt calls during the briefing”. Damn, that’s a nice jacket Anand has here. Still unsure if she or Dr. Njoo win the “Zoom background” wars.

We also have two “From the very beginning” squares. Anand is saying that we’re getting the vaccines in a new format which minimizes the possibility of waste. And you know, I’m gonna say that’s a “Shades provinces.”

And now to the questions. Oh, and I forgot. You can mark “Haircut” as well. And now “Gesticulates” too. I missed the first one, alas. Mark “Twinkleface” though, and “Drinks water.” Next q is from Lina Dibb and just gets her a “Our priority is protecting Canadians” and a bunch of vaccine statistics in reply.

I shall refuse comment on the shoes, however. And the shoeleaces, GAH!

That’s a nice tie. Reagan notwithstanding, I’m fond of a good red tie. Apparently the colourful socks are still A Thing we have it on good authority but, without a good under-desk shot we can’t let you have that square, Possums.

China says nasty things about Canada. And Trudeau replies that “Canada [not China] is a country of the rule of law…and it is disappointing that the trials [of The Two Michaels are] happening in secret.”

And yes, “Coercive Diplomacy” square active.

He won’t though. He thinks Doug Ford is trainable. Doug Ford is like his Problem Adopted Dog and he’s not ready to give up on ol’ Douggie yet. YET.

That’s just Doug’s “bubble.”

Yet another “From the very beginning” and a question about Iran and accountability for Flight 752. Trudeau mentions the diplomats from other countries who’ve been important in pressuring China on The Two Michaels. And mark your “Sign language interpreters swapped out” square.

Roommate is making some construction project noise and I can’t hear right now, so mark your “Audio difficulties” square I guess.

Clear as day

Oh wait, Trudeau is saying we value transparency and he’s doing it with a STRAIGHT FACE. Possums, I am impressed; never thought he was that good at acting.

That’s five “From the very beginning” and one “From the very start” and that’s a bingo, people!

“Have you exclusively phoned President Biden” to ask him to intervene with China. Trudeau gives a mild smile and a soothing generality but does not say yes or no.

And that’s a wrap. Mark your “Mask” and “Maple leaf accessory” squares.

Meanwhile, in San Francisco:

Serious Question: were pirates socialist, or communist? Hmmm.

  1. Reblogged this on #OpCovid19 and commented:

The latest on vaccine supply in Canada: not doing nearly as well as the US in distribution. The US has vaccinated roughly a third of their population. Canada hasn’t even vaccinated a third of the over-60’s.

  2. Oh, and don’t forget the “Facial Hair” square. It’s been the default all the way through, of course. Will be big news the day he gets rid of it or goes full Novelty Hipster Facial Hair, like with a walrus mustache or neckbeard or something.
