Limbaugh vs Nobody: Relativism in Action

Wheelchair-confined Richard Paey committed almost exactly the same violations of Florida prescription drug laws that radio personality Rush Limbaugh did, with a different result: Limbaugh's sentence, in May, was addiction treatment, and Paey's, in 2004, was 25 years in prison. Both illegally possessed large quantities of painkillers for personal use, which Paey defiantly argued was (and will be) necessary to relieve nearly constant pain from unsuccessful spinal surgeries after an auto accident, but which Limbaugh admitted was simply the result of addiction. (In fact, if Limbaugh complies with his plea bargain, his conviction will be erased.) Paey's sentence now rests with a state Court of Appeal. [Tampa Tribune, 2-8-06]

Actually, unlike the party responsible for this website,Shaw Wank I ain't nevah had a problem with my Shaw connection, except that one time I had been…celebrating…and didn't notice I'd kicked the modem behind my printer, slightly loosening the connections in the process. Pointed. Yes, one would have to say pointed. This guy should never, ever try VCN. Not only does it go down at least twice a week, but it stays down for hours and when it comes back up all you get are sanctimonious whines from the staff about how they're all volunteer. Now, I'm a volunteer. I'm all for volunteerism. But let's set some kind of floor of competence, shall we? For lo, cluelessness is not endearing, particularly when my article misses the deadline because you're such a giggling incomp.

Rwandan president scoffs at "Hotel Rwanda"

Rwandan president Paul Kagame on Wednesday dismissed the Oscar-nominated drama "Hotel Rwanda" as an attempt to rewrite the history of the central African country's 1994 genocide. The 2004 film refueled world interest in the massacres, in which some 800,000 minority Tutsis and moderate Hutus were butchered in 100 days of killings.

"Hotel Rwanda" stars Don Cheadle as Paul Rusesabagina, the manager of a luxury hotel in the Rwandan capital Kigali who uses his position to help save more than 1,200 Tutsi refugees.

Kagame said the movie's portrayal of Rusesabagina as a hero during the genocide was false. "It has nothing to do with Rusesabagina," Kagame told reporters during a visit to Washington. "He just happened to be there accidentally, and he happened to be surviving because he was not in the category of those being hunted."

Kagame said people in the hotel were saved in part because U.N. forces occupied the hotel and because the killers wanted to keep it as a place where they could drink beer after a long day of killing and discuss whom to kill the following day.

Kagame, a Tutsi, said another reason lives were spared is that talks had been underway between his rebel group and the then-interim government to exchange Tutsis in the hotel for Hutu soldiers captured by his group.

"Someone is trying to rewrite the history of Rwanda and we cannot accept it," he said. Some survivors of the genocide also have been critical of movies about the slaughter, saying Hollywood got their story wrong. Amid international inaction, the genocide was finally ended by Kagame, who led a rebel army from Uganda to seize power.

Rusesabagina, awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom last year, has recently been critical of the Kigali government, accusing it of continued human rights violations and oppression of political opponents.

According to Team America World Police's secret spycam footage, Kim Jong Il is a very ronrey boy. Heading a country of 22 million people, 21.999999 million of whom detest and fear one, must indeed greatly interfere with developing a well-rounded social life.

A commentor on Guido Fawkes' blog notes, however, that Kim's MySpace profile lists 1127 more friends than Dave Cameron's. Boris Johnson is doing rather better, with 533 friends, starting with Thatcher and including some surprising additions.

I note with a measure of patriotic pride that Pierre Trudeau has 1571 friends, beating them all into the dust, despite having been dead for several years. You never lose it, I guess.

"Reason over Passion" that's my motto — It carried me through 16 years as Prime Minister of Canada (from 1968 to 1979 and 1980 to 1984). My Prime Ministership saw Canada become a nation that upholds the values of multiculturalism and billingualism. I brought the constitution back to Canada (so we no longer had to go begging to Britain to amend it) and I brought the the Charter of Rights and Freedoms! What can I say, I was a great Prime Minister – too bad they didn't name the mountain after me but at least I have an airport! And what other Prime Minister chilled with Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono, dated Barbara Striesand, and was chased around by girls? I had Trudeaumania, slid down bannisters, pirouetted behind the Queen of England, and gave the finger to those who pissed me off! So if you like billingualism and multiculturalism and/or are a beautiful woman (especially a celebrity) say hello… but if you're Richard Nixon, Rene Levesque, an Alberta oil baron, or a Quebec seperatist then you'll just see "how far I'll go"
