In an interview with Baba Wawa on 20/20, Terri Irwin has said that she will not release the video footage of her husband’s death by stingray. This article comes from the BBC, via Trenchcoat Chronicles.

The 42-year-old mother of two said her late husband knew he would not live a long life.
“He’d talk about it often,” she said. “But it wasn’t because of any danger from wildlife. He just felt life could be dangerous.”
As I said before, the wishes of the dead are to be respected, but not neccessarily obeyed. The film belongs to Terri Irwin and the film company, and it is their right to decide what happens to it.
Here is the tribute speech to Irwin by his daughter, Bindi Sue, who has her own television show. He was actually getting footage of the stingray for her when he died. She’s already stated that she has no intention of giving up on the show, but considers it carrying on the family legacy. Those are big boots to fill, kid, but judging from this it looks like you’re off to a good start.

Unfortunately, Vampirefreaks.com and gothic culture in general has been receiving negative press, most recently for a school shooting in montreal where the criminal was a member of this website. It was a very tragic event and it’s unfortunate that the faults of one user has been attributed to our site and goth culture in general. In response to these events, we have been watching the site more closely and also asking users to be on their best behavior and show that we are a friendly and caring community. A few members have taken it upon themselves to get involved with local charities, and I applaud you for your efforts.
Vampirefreaks is now officially hosting a charity fundraiser for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, towards providing hospital care to children in Montreal. We have chosen this charity because Montreal is the city that was affected by this tragic event and we would like to help out children in need [Montreal Children’s Hospital is also the charity chosen by Anastasia DeSousa‘s family for donations in her name].

Well, at least Metafilter gave me the luv, which was worth a good 1200 hits in one day, and, bizarrely, Chubby Bunny seems to be going viral, days after the posting, leaving all mango porno-related posts in the compost heap. I guess there’s a lag time with marshmallows: who knew?

Kimveer Gill’s Blog continues to be popular with illiterate teenagers who hate everyone and only want to be left alone because they’re peaceful, loving people and who have come to my blog to threaten me for saying otherwise, although I hadn’t, but they wouldn’t know that because they, of course, don’t read the post or the comments. Occasional flashes of insight are posted in that thread by people who don’t know the saying about pearls before swine; the latest swine was someone pretending to be Anastasia deSousa’s brother. His IP is 24.236.230.153 if anyone is interested in taking it up with him.
Hits indicate that everyone is still interested in Beautiful Agony, Blackzilla, and watching Steve Irwin die. Except me. Oh, and some reaaaaaaaly longtailers are just catching on to Lucy Gao now.
BTW, I have five bucks riding on my whining getting me banned from Gawker. Time will tell; they won’t wake up for another ten hours.
Looks like things have calmed down at VampireFreaks, although Auntie Angel reports that a lot of people have signed up to the site just to look at Gill‘s pictures and blog, and are still hanging around. There will always be gawkers at a tragedy; Gill himself was a gawker of the Columbine Massacre.
In any case, there’s a new note at VF and an acknowledgement that the media hasn’t actually been all that Goth-bashy after all. Which is no more than the truth; the media mentions Gill’s Goth side because really, other than that, there was nothing whatsoever interesting about him. Without the trenchcoat, shades, metal and guns, he was just another unemployed alcoholic living in his mom’s basement.

Thanks to everyone’s support in light of recent events. There’s been a huge reaction on this site, and really i want to express a thank you to everyone who has been supportive. We will be monitoring the site more closely due to recent events. And once again I offer my sincere sympathy to the victims and their families. It really is a tragic event. I’ve gotten countless emails about the incident, yes a few of them were very negative and close-minded towards goth culture and this site, but the vast majority of feedback i’ve received has been understanding and supportive of the site. Mature adults, not into the goth scene, who are smart enough to see that this site is not to blame for what happened. Also, thanks to the media, for actually not being that hard on goth culture this time. I know that the goth scene and this website in particular has gotten bad publicity in the past, and while a few reporters have decided to make us look bad again and try to place the blame on us, i see that many members of the media are actually starting to be more accepting and understanding of our scene. Anyway, I feel this has been the topic of conversation on here for too long, so lets just move on and go on with our usual site updates. If you want to further discuss these news, please do so in the entry posted before this one, it already has over 7,000 comments related to the incident and this entry is for our new wallpaper design contest…
