quiz: the five factors value quiz

I’m really ambivalent about this one. Loyalty is one of my highest values, but the way the questions were written, you have a choice between offending someone and being truthful and being truthful is considered disloyal, which intelligent and sophisticated people know is not the case. And by the time you’re out of diapers you really should have developed the knack of telling the truth in a way that is not offensive.

Unless of course you wish to be offensive, and if that is what you wish to do you may be interested in private lessons with me.

In any case, FWIW, here is the quiz. I think the corset one is a lot more accurate, but hey, that’s just me. And if you disagree with me, you’re probably a sprung-stay, industrial beige elastic, pointy-boob Eisenhower longline bra, so there.

Your Values Profile

Loyalty:

You don’t really value loyalty.

In your opinion, friendship should be earned.

If you don’t agree with someone, it doesn’t matter how close you are.

You’ll let them (and everyone else know) exactly what you think.

Honesty:

You value honesty a fair amount.

You’re honest when you can be, but you aren’t a stickler for it.

If a little white lie will make a situation more comfortable, you’ll go for it.

In the end, you mostly care about “situational integrity.”

Generosity:

You value generosity highly.

So much so that you often put your own needs last.

There’s nothing wrong with having a caring heart…

But you may want to rethink your “open wallet” policy.

Humility:

You don’t really value humility.

You don’t have much to be humble about!

And you might as well promote yourself, because no one else will.

You’re a pretty special person, and you let everyone know it.

Tolerance:

You value tolerance highly.

Not only do you enjoy the company of those very different from you…

You do all that you can to seek it out interesting and unique friends.

You think there are many truths in life, and you’re open to many of them.

the littlest serial killer

little suicide bomber

Oh my, his parents must be so very proud!

In the fine tradition of Mary Bell (among too many others) an Indian boy named Amarjeet has been arrested for the apparently-recreational murder of a neighbor’s six-month-old baby. While under arrest, he confessed to two different murders as well: his six-month-old little sister and a cousin.

Is that what they call a dangerous age? Maybe if they make it to two he lets them live.

From NDTV:

”She was sleeping in the school. I took her a little away, and killed her with a stone and buried her,” he said.

The police consider Amarjeet to be mentally deranged and are questioning him about the murders.

”When we met the boy he said that he’d put the girl to sleep in the fields after killing her,” said Shatrughan Kumar, Officer-in-Charge, Begusarai Police station.

The War Prayer, by Mark Twain

Mark Twainvia Daily Kos. Twain would not permit this to be published until after his death, and given the potential for blowback I think we can all understand why. It reminds me of nothing so much as William S. Burroughs’ Thanksgiving Prayer. Watch the film on YouTube here.

O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle — be Thou near them! With them — in spirit — we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe.

O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it — for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet!

We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

emo loser: the corruption of an innocent

Not since Will Ferrell‘s heartbreaking portrait of a soused, abusive toddler landlord have we seen so wrenching a portrait of innocence lost. When the Dad has to bring up Nancy Reagan, you know it’s a desperate situation.

Just.

No.

pic o’ the day: parenting lite

segway into parenting

This is rather reminiscent of those “condensed bedtime stories” designed so that busy parents won’t have to spend much of their precious time with their precious offspring. Looks like somebody needs a little lecture on safety and a large one on not looking like an ass in public.

Where does she put the latte?
