the americans with no abilities act

From the Lauri blog. I know entirely too many people called some version of this name, including myself and my father’s first wife, who died before I was born, to whom I am not actually related, and for whom I am named. It’s obviously a supernaturally loaded nomenclature.

And this post is a fine testament to the wonders that can be discovered by clicking on amusing titles in “Most Recently Updated WordPress Blogs.”

The Americans With No Abilities ActJuly 5th, 2006

Idiot by Richard Thurberry

WASHINGTON, DC – Congress is considering sweeping legislation,
which provides new benefits for many Americans. The Americans With No
Abilities Act (AWNAA) is being hailed as a major legislation by
advocates of the millions of Americans who lack any real skills or
ambition.

“Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the competence
and drive necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in
society,” said Barbara Boxer. “We can no longer stand by and allow
People of Inability to be ridiculed and passed over. With this
legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to
a small group of workers, simply because they do a better job, or have
some idea of what they are doing.”

Finally, the AWNA ACT contains tough new measures to make it
more difficult to discriminate against the Nonabled, banning
discriminatory interview questions such as “Do you have any goals for
the future?” or “Do you have any skills or experience which relate to
this job?”

…

“As a Nonabled person, I can’t be expected to keep up with
people who have something going for them,” said Mary Lou Gertz, who lost
her position as a lug-nut twister at the GM plant in Flint, MI due to
her lack of notable job skills. “This new law should really help people
like me.” With the passage of this bill, Gertz and millions of other
untalented citizens can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Said Senator Ted Kennedy, “It is our duty as lawmakers to
provide each and every American citizen, regardless of his or her
adequacy or inadequacy, with some sort of space to take up in this great
nation. As I firmly stated when I first entered the Senate too many
years ago, “Let us never forget, everybody has got to be some place at
some time or other.””

Happy 4th of July!!!

We all celebrate in our own unique ways. Some of my friends to it by firing off fireworks, eating BBQ, and drinking pisswater. My family does it by making sure the cannons at Windsor are still pointed across the river. I do it by posting anti-Bush videos from YouTube.

fuddle duddle, the VIDEO!!!

One day in February, 1971: A great moment in Canadian history. Someone once said that in Pierre Elliott Trudeau Canada has at last produced a political leader worth of assassination, and love him or hate him you just have to agree. Watch the video and make up your own mind.

Thanks to Raj for grabbing and re-formatting, cropping, and uploading. God knows I’m far too lazy to do all that myself.

Plus bonus: The October Crisis, the Kidnapping of Pierre Laporte

This is so damn earnest, it just may be the most Canadian thing I’ve ever seen.
What say you all?

Twinkle, Twinkle, little bioengineered superweapon

Porcupine, Bitch!According to this report from ABC News and the BBC, the United Kingdom has perfected a radically new and different weapons system.

While both Canada and the US sat by, lulled into complacency by the sheer numbers of their old-skool artillery, the Brits have been bio-engeneering a groundbreaking (literally) new weapon, cleverly tucked away on an ostrich farm where nobody would think to look for it.

The Poisonous Porcupine.

People in north-west England are being warned not to approach a porcupine which burrowed out of a farm visitors centre and is now on the loose, BBC Online reports.

Twinkle, a 0.9 metre long female, escaped from her enclosure at Eden Ostrich World near Penrith on Saturday, prompting warnings because her detachable, poison-filled quills can become embedded in skin.

Jim Peet, from the centre, was quoted as saying that Twinkle was normally "cool" but was classed as a dangerous wild animal because of her spiky appearance.

"She could make a real mess of someone's garden and she should not be approached as her quills contain poison and she could become flustered if backed into a corner," he added.

Twinkle's disappearance came after some British newspapers said police had received reports of a tiger on the loose in Yorkshire, northern England.

Any bets on what kind of poison they're using? Ricin? Strychnine? Insulin megadose? I pick my fallback fave, sodium fluroacetate.

Just look in them beady little eyes; they may be the last thing you ever see, bitch.
