Cthulhu Cthamp for Kthids.

Cthulhu House

Ah yes, this is what I look for in a summer camp: tentacles. When deciding which godforsaken pit of vipers you’re going to pay to store your children for a couple of weeks, it’s so, so very important to make sure that you choose one that will teach them skills they will need in life as they’re growing up.

Coping with Cthulhu is, obviously, one of those skills.

The Russians, whose Soviet-era abandoned summer camp this is, were obviously miles ahead of the West in Elder God Preparations; only the fall of Communism put an end to their highly sophisticated program, closing the Appeasement of the Ancient Ones Gap between East and West.

what happened…?

Some of you may be wondering what happened. I even received a rather worried email, subject line “ONE post???”.

Here, for those of you who were not there, is what happened:

Negroni

1oz Plymouth gin

1oz Campari

1oz red Cinzano vermouth

Well, it happened five times and a draft pint of Strongbow happened once. Negronis are the prettiest of all cocktails, but as I said, they are like playing with God’s remote control when you can’t read what the buttons do. Christian Brando had three and shot his sister’s lover. I had five and ended up drunkenly emailing an Eric Stoltz sighting to Defamer (who laughed at me, thanks Mark!) and instead of flirting with the biggest flirt on the planet, I went into chat and bored him senseless with my exciting plans for my new CSS design!

No wonder I can’t get laid. I ignore Eric Stoltz and bore all of the rest of them.

Chinatown movie

from Defamer, who have beaten all Fark challengers into the ground with the sheer, sexy erudition of this one:

it’s white meat! (slap!) dark meat! (slap!) white meat, dark meat! (slap!)

the market for #114: going long on Nasrallah

Well this is lovely. In a no-doubt outreachy and educational move, Lebanon has popularized sticker books featuring politicians. Not exactly the glamorous and exciting Lost in Space stickerbooks of my youth, they are nonetheless popular with collecting-y types. One particular thing stands out, however.

Hezbollah stickers

I got all the major politicians except Hassan Nasrallah. Apparently he’s a hard to find sticker. It makes me wonder who is making these stickers. By only printing a limited number of Nasrallahs, it may be a political statement. But at the same time, it means that the demand for Nasrallah is being driven up and he’s becoming more desirable. No matter how you look at it, Nasrallah is the hardest man to find in Lebanon.

Me, I think the CIA cornered the market and is passing them out to new recruits as part of the training process.

What is nothing worth?

Nothing ain’t worth nothing…if you take their word for it.

But who’s “they“?

When they’re lying on the sidewalk asking for spare change, what they’re offering is an option: the chance to give money that goes directly to the people who need it most.

What they don’t, and can’t, tell you is whether or not they spend it on healthy foodstuffs or brewed or distilled products.

This would be why, after 25 years in Vangroover, I still never give money but DO offer food. If a beggar declines my food offer once, he’s off the list, no matter how many permutations of his hardluck story he may come up with subsequently.

There’s an old fellow (if it were PC I’d say ancient, but I’m afraid his advocates would get it all up in their noses) of Native persuasian, who sits at probably the least profitable corner in the country. Main and Hastings has, according to StatsCan, an average life expectancy of 33 years. And yet, he makes a living.

So, when I got an email from a friend, saying hey, people, ten would help, I gave her a hundred, although I am still technically on Welfare. This woman took out a loan to help me; the least I can do is spread the good fortune once it starts rolling in!
