Day of the Ninja: how to become a ninja

As we here at the ol’ raincoaster blog have noted, December 5th is the Day of the Ninja. You may wish to ninjafy yourself, or you may wish to ninja-proof yourself (as if such a thing can be done!) in preparation for the dread event.

Our sympathies, naturally, lie much more towards the Squid quadrant of the Grid of Alignment (Squid, Pirate, Ninja, Robot) than the Ninja quadrant, but we provide the following How To Become A Ninja chart as a public service to our readers.

Click to enlarge. And: Don’t say we never did nuthin for ya.

Zombie preparedness: the video

Stolen from CommonCraft via DigitalDoodles and DarrenBarefoot.

Sure, it’s a little late, but when it comes to zombie attack preparedness, better late than never. Also, are you prepared for December 5th? It’s Ninja Action Day. Don’t leave it to the last minute: lay in your ninja, zombie or pirate supplies now, according to your loyalties. If any. When zombies attack, it’s every tentacled being from beyond the star spaces for herself!

the freakiest story I’m too tired to post

Manta Ray

Seriously weird. Seriously, seriously freaky. Probably fake. “The one that got away” takes on new meaning in this tale of lost loves at sea

Via (where else would you expect?) the Guardian’s Political Diary.

“Almost everybody in the fishing business has had sex with a manta at some point,” Makeburu asserts.

What!!! A manta??? You mean one of those enormous, intimidating winged things with a stinger on their tail that looks like an aquatic Batman?

Yep. After all, fisherman out on ships spend a loooonggg time at sea without ever encountering a woman, and, well, let’s face it, they can get pretty horny. No, dammit, let’s make that incredibly horny. Even desperate enough to do it with a manta. Right?

“Nah,” shrugs Makeburu. “Coastal fishermen poke them too.”

Jumbo Squid: we’re in ur oeshunz, attakin ur videocameras

Yes, another YouTube. I tried to hold off on this one (hey, seafood stays fresh for a long time, right?) but got scooped by weirdscience and poked by StilettoGirl, and so can contain myself no longer!

Let my Calamari go!

Dosidicus gigas wants to be free!

Ia! Ia! Cthulhu Fhtagn!

So who cares if they’re in California, eating all the seafood. We’ve got an inundation of tourists eating all of ours, up and down the coasts of Robson Street, and you don’t hear us complaining, though nary a Prawn Skewer they leave for us locals!

Come to think of it, if I ever start a rock band I’m totally gonna call it Jumbo Squid Invasion!
